Lint? Oh, Lent.

Yesterday in studio a girl walked through with ashes on her forehead. One of guys asked what was going on, and EVERYONE else responded "It's Ash Wednesday!!" That started a discussion of what everyone was giving up for Lent. The same guy didn't know what Lent was either! He asked if it was a Catholic thing, and I responded that it was a Christian thing. I've been seeing on other people's blogs a lot of things about Catholics and Lent, so maybe it is a "Catholic thing".

I've always participated in Lent. I'm United Methodist, and my family has always celebrated Ash Wednesday at my church and given up things for Lent. My mom always gives up chocolate. I've had a variety of things I've given up over the years including TV, the word "hate", and sweet tea. This year, I'm giving up french fries. I'm doing it because I know it will be good for me to go without french fries for the next 40 days (30-something now), and it will be a sacrifice. I had my last batch of waffle fries with my lunch on Tuesday, and they were deeeelicious.

Are you participating in Lent? I'd love to hear what you're giving up (or taking on)!

Don't forget that today is the last day to enter the Pampered Chef giveaway. Posting will be disabled at midnight tonight! Don't miss out on this opportunity...two winners! Winners posted tomorrow afternoon.

  1. My old Methodist church celebrated Ash Wednesday, but my old Lutheran church did not, so maybe it's a "take it or leave it" Christian thing, but Catholics all observe it? *shrug*

I don't celebrate, not being Christian and all, but I'm all in favor of giving up things that are unhealthy. Good luck! (and if you get a hankering for something crunchy and salty, I suggest baked kale). :)

  2. I'm Protestant (Southern Baptist) and we do not celebrate Lent.

Here's what I found on the oh, so wise internet...(take that with a grain of salt ;)

"Most mainline Protestants do - Episcopal, Anglican, Methodist, Presbyterian, and Lutheran. Most Baptist and non-denominational/independent churches do not."

    So...that's that, I suppose. :)

Funny you mentioned french fries. You HAVE to check out my post today. On second thought...don't. ;)
